i have been having a serious love affair with denim. i love that it can be casual and chic with a simple twist of accessory. the only problem is that i only own two pairs of jeans. this has to be changed immediately.

about 2 months ago i came home, took off my clothes and stood in front of a full length mirror. my co-worker had casually observed that i had put on some weight. i informed him that i had not been to the gym in more than a year so it was to be expected. but i was curious. how much weight had i gained? i do not own a scale so i stood in front of the mirror and looked. i certainly knew i had gained weight, but i attributed it to the lack of exercise. however, i had not been eating more than usual. i share this because it was the only noticeable clue that something was wrong. my period was also shorter. as i looked i noticed the skin on my left breast was stretched and shiny. my breast also looked bigger than usual. my menstrual cycle had ended two days prior, but the increase in the size of my breast was different from the monthly bloat. so i started feeling my left breast and i found a lump. my heart dropped. i tried not to panic. i prayed and asked GOD for strength. the next day my breast had swollen twice the size. i made an appointment to see a doctor and continued to pray. after a slew of tests a biopsy confirmed that i had breast cancer. i firmly believe that GOD does not give us more than we can handle. my prayers were answered and my strength was increased. i am able to deal with this by the grace of GOD. i'm only human so i still get scared at times. last week i started chemotherapy and will keep you guys updated. this little blog helps me deal so i will definitely keep it going. the plate above consists of brown rice cooked with salmon and sweet peas, green beans, beets and beet greens, corn, red onions and kale.
